WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A DENTAL EMERGENCY WHILE TRAVELING

For those who travel frequently, part of your essentials to pack is your toiletries. This includes your dental care tools such as toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and floss, amongst other things. However, what happens when even that isn’t enough to combat a dental emergency?

In this article, we’ll be going over ways to handle dental emergencies while you travel.

TOOTHACHE TREATMENT

One of the worst things to happen while travelling is a toothache. The lingering pain from a toothache can cause headaches and ruin your whole holiday. Therefore, it’s best to come prepared and have a solution beforehand.

An effective temporary solution is to bring aspirin, Tylenol or your go-to painkiller. These can alleviate both your toothache and headache momentarily, until you can schedule a visit to the dentist. For those with sensitive teeth, avoid drinking beverages that are either too hot or too cold. If you’re traveling to a colder climate, it can also help by breathing strictly through the nose to prevent freezing air from chilling your teeth and causing pain.

DENTAL CARE FOR TRAVELERS

As the saying goes, prevention is always better, and that applies to toothaches as well. If you’re planning long-distance travel, it’s best if you take care of any lingering dental work before you leave. Resolve problems early, ahead of your traveling agenda, so you don’t need to worry about it while you’re away. For any lingering pain, make sure you pack your dental care along with the painkillers or antiseptic solution mentioned above.

Also, if you know your teeth are sensitive to certain types of food, it’s best to avoid them completely during your travels. For example, some people may find popcorn enjoyable but it can also be very hard if you happen to eat one that hasn’t fully popped yet.
