How To Remove Spider Veins from Different Parts of The Body

If you’ve ever noticed a series of faint purple, blue or red lines on your arms or legs, they could be identifiable as spider veins. These visible veins resemble the small and thin legs of a spider, hence the name.

Causes

Spider veins can appear on your body due to hereditary origins (inherited from your parents), or they can appear when the valves inside the veins aren’t working properly. This valve acts as a safety mechanism to prevent the blood from flowing backwards. However, the valve can weaken or get damaged overtime, causing the blood to pool inside the vein which results in the spider veins.

Removing spider veins

Spider veins are not something you can remedy on your own at home. Non-invasive treatments, such as covering the vein using creams or ointments, are not going to make the spider veins disappear.

A popular, and effective solution to remove spider veins is through Sclerotherapy. The doctor injects a sclerosing agent directly onto the affected vein. This treatment reduces the swelling and also causes the spider veins to shrink. Gradually the spider vein will dissolve and vanish completely. Depending on each individual, the procedure may require multiple treatments to completely dissolve the vein.

There are temporary side effects after undergoing Sclerotherapy such as swelling, bruising, redness under the skin and itching. These side effects are temporary and will gradually disappear after 1 – 5 days. For quicker recovery times, patients can also opt to wear compression stockings for several days or weeks which will apply additional pressure to the veins and improve blood flow.

Sclerotherapy is offered here at Rejuvie Aesthetic Clinic to help our patients remove visible spider veins from parts of their body. A session of Sclerotherapy typically takes 15 – 30 minutes, and is conducted by only our specialist doctors.
